MJB Ranch

Ranch History

The ranch is located just east of Lodge Grass, Montana. The Brown family came to Montana from Texas in the early 1900's. Today, the ranch runs purebred and commercial cattle in addition to farming wheat, barley and alfalfa. The families involved in the ranching operation represent the 3rd, 4th and 5th generations to be involved with the family operation.

The ranch is operated by Jim and Mary Brown. They have 3 children, Sherry, Dale and Matt who were all active in the cattle operation growing up. Their kids hold the distinctive honor of all three serving as the President of the Junior Hereford Association Board while they were active in the American Junior Hereford Association.

Sherry and her husband, Jim Doubet, met at Colorado State University on the Livestock Judging Team. Their sons, Curtis and Cody are actively involved in Livestock Judging at the Collegiate level and together with their younger brother Justin, bring an additional level of livestock expertise to the family operation. Dale and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Sheridan, Wyoming. They have 3 children, Kate, Wyatt and Dane. Matt and his wife Jenna, split their duties between the ranch and Sheridan, Wyoming, while they raise their two kids, Maddie and Cade. All of the grandkids love coming to the ranch and helping out however and whenever they can. It gives us the chance to instill a good work ethic and show that there is pride in hard work.

The ranch began in the seedstock business raising registered Herefords. Bulls like DR Achiever and MJB Blazer 1000ET are 2 of the bulls that were heavily used at MJB and sold semen through Select Sires and ABS Global across the country. Salers cattle were added in 1984. South Devon cattle were added in 1988. Most recently Angus cattle were added to allow MJB Ranch to offer complementary breeds for commercial producers to utilize in their crossbreeding programs. All of our cattle are run in similar fashion in the big rolling hills between Sheridan, Wyoming, and Billings, Montana.

We are happy to have an amazing set of commercial customers that we consider friends and some of the top fellow cattlemen and women in the country. We have repeat customers that have been buying continuously from us since the early 1970's. We are proud to serve Sight Unseen customers for over 10 continuous years that have never set foot on the ranch or in our bull pen. It gives us great pride to do business on a hand shake with a tremendous set of customers each year. We look forward to adding you to this list.
